Whether you call it a barbecue, a grill or a garden barbecue, the job is the same: cooking meat, vegetables and fish over glowing embers. The right choice depends on how many people you cook for, where you use it and how often you carry it. We bring the fire and metalworking experience gained in stove manufacturing since 1957 to our barbecues.
What to Look For
| Criterion | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Material | Stainless steel resists corrosion outdoors and is easy to clean. |

| Weight and size | Matters for picnics, camping and car boot space. |
Our Portable Barbecue is made of stainless steel, measures 40x30x25 cm, weighs 8 kg and serves 4–6 people.
Charcoal or Wood?
- Charcoal: steady, long-lasting embers with little smoke.
- Hardwood: oak, beech or fruit woods add aroma; wait for the flames to die down.
- Avoid: painted wood, plastic and petrol-type accelerants.
Preparing the Embers
- Stack charcoal in a pyramid with a natural fire starter in the middle.
- Wait until the coals are covered with white-grey ash.
- Spread embers thickly on one side and thinly on the other to create hot and cool zones.
- Preheat the grate, brush it clean and oil it lightly.
Safety and Care
Always use a barbecue outdoors, on a stable surface away from flammable materials. Never burn charcoal in a tent, caravan or enclosed space because of carbon monoxide risk. Brush the grate while it is still warm, empty ash only when fully cold and store the barbecue in a dry place over winter. For chilly evenings, see our cast iron stoves, and contact us for details and a quote.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many people does a portable barbecue serve?
It depends on the grill area. Our Portable Barbecue is designed for groups of 4–6; for larger groups, cook in batches and keep food warm at the cooler edge.
How long does charcoal take to be ready?
Usually 15–25 minutes. Start cooking when the coals are covered with white-grey ash and no flames remain.
Is it safe to grill on a balcony?
Only on an open, well-ventilated balcony away from flammable items, and where building rules allow it. Never use charcoal on an enclosed balcony.
